What Spanish translation of the Bible is comparable to the KJV?

We want to buy a Spanish-speaking friend a Bible, but are not sure which version to buy. What would the Spanish name be for the version I need? I am looking on eBay, and I can read some Spanish, but not very much. Thanks.|||Skepsis (as usual) gave a good answer.





The RV is the "classic" Spanish Protestant bible. The first edition pre-dates the King James Version by several decades.





The "classic" RV - the one used by what we might call "traditional bible" Protestants - is the 1909 version, still widely available because of its popularity.





The "new classic" version - the one used by more modern but still conservative Protestants - is the very popular 1960 version. This, too, is still widely available, and corresponds roughly to the Revised Standard Version in English.





Notice how the date is usually given with the title here at Amazon, and how the editions are roughly equally divided between 1909 and 1960.

But "there were approximately thirty distinct editions of the Textus Receptus made over the years. For source material and for equivalent antiquity, the Reina-Valera Version of 1602 is probably the closest match, but there are several revisions of R-V, which differ markedly. Make sure it is the 1602 version.
